I'm ok with the Sea Monkey mechanic later in the game, but I don't think they make sense for the "safe shallows" of BZ. Below Zero is set in an arctic region of planet 4546B. Dive into a freezing underwater adventure. It is a new chapter in the Subnautica universe and developed by Unknown Worlds. It's confusing AF - the sort of thing that sends a player to a wiki or YouTube videos because that's how you learn the game when anti-scanning police are on patrol. Below Zero is an underwater adventure game set on an alien ocean world. How does a new player know what just happened? There's a brief animation that implies the sea monkey is holding it but that's a lie. Hidden inside a pitch-black cave with Snow Stalkers. Cave 4: Inside a small cave near a narrow pass a bit east of the purple flower trees. Cave 2: Inside a small cave near the purple flower trees. Second, the 'magical' nature of what happens to the stolen item. Cave 1: Right outside of and below Phi Robotics Lab. Sea Monkeys are the anti-scanning police of the game. It even gets you acquainted with the PDA and it's various uses. ![]() First, how does a new player learn the game? Scanning! Scanning unlocks the backstory of the planet and the progression in crafting. Two problems with this design, both to do with the new-player-never-played-Subnautica experience. Shoal of Fish (Below Zero) Shoal of Fish (Subnautica) Ampeel. So I spent 45 minutes carefully searching in the area where it died and then around the pod out to about 30m including into all the crevasses below. So I made TWO knives, handed one to a sea monkey then used the other to kill it just a couple meters from the pod. Left pod, and just outside a sea monkey takes the scanner. Someone will pull it off some day, I'm sure, but at this point I don't think it will be Unknown Worlds.Today I started my first game (other than a quick look back when EA started). Not all of them are predators, but they are all huge So far, leviathans seem to be organized by size instead of biome. Just like I never thought an underwater survival game would be as good as Subnautica was until I played it. There are nine Leviathan Class Organisms in Subnautica: Below Zero. I'm not either, otherwise I'd make the next Subnautica myself. Originally posted by Mega Guillotine 2020: So being stranded without alterra blueprints but had to find/have another way to survive? More agressive creatures could be added in or a way to add them in so that there is a lot more danger when findind the rare resources? Im not sure what mechanics can be changed without losing that subnautica feel. ![]() But it would get repetitive after the novelty of seeing new stuff wore off, because it would still be the same game, just like starting a new save in the original Subnautica will never be like starting the game completely new to it because you already know what to do. Could they just do the same game again with a different environment? Sure. Hence my skepticism about their ability to deliver a fresh take on Subnautica's gameplay loop. They tried to do it in BZ mainly with the temperature mechanics and surface biomes, but those were big flops that are far more annoying than interesting. It would need new mechanics and novel situations that make you engage with the gameplay in different ways to keep you on your toes. The Symbiotes body is small, and is divided into two distinct parts: the short but wide anterior region and the long, thin translucent posterior region. A true sequel might be nice especially if it brings back that fear of what you are actually going to find when you first start.
